Pinched Nerve?
Patients often come to our clinic complaining of pain they believe to be caused by a "pinched nerve." These patients are usually experiencing neck or back pain that is radiating into their arm or leg. Such pain can come on after vigorous or even minimal physical activity.
A number of different conditions can create pain near the nerve as well as at other locations, in the arms or legs.
In many cases pain attributed to a pinching of the nerve is not caused the way we think. As the nerves exit your back near the spinal cord, they travel very close to muscles, tendons and ligaments. Oftentimes, abnormal movement, (too much or too little) causes irritation to structures near the nerve. The nerve can then become involved in a painful cycle that it difficult to control.
Nerve pain can be more complex if spinal degeneration (arthritic change) is present.
Studies have shown that acute and chronic pain responds extremely well to appropriate specialized care offered by the chiropractic profession. Unfortunately, many do not heed the early warning signs. They continue their activities until a disability (usually temporary, but sometimes permanent) actually develops.
Chiropractors are specialist's for treating pain involving the body's nerves utilizing conservative treatment methods. Chiropractic care seeks to both reduce the pain that brings you in for evaluation as well as teach you ways to reduce the likelihood of a future reture episode of pain.
Before starting treatment, we take the time to do a thorough history and physical examination to ensure your condition is appropriate for chiropractic care techniques. Then, while you are under our care, we continue to monitor your progress. If, at any time before or during your care, we determine that you require additional evaluation or care we do not offer, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist to best address your condition. We seek to treat all of our patients as we want our own family members treated.
If you have previously or are currently experiencing local pain or referring pain, don't wait to get it evaluated. Search out the root cause of your pain.
Check with a doctor of chiropractic to determine if your problem can be helped with conservative care before resorting to drugs or surgery.
